Basically all I do is things that are on a computer. My computer. So when it was overheating last week, I knew it was due to my fans all dying which I knew had been a thing that had been going on for some time.
But when it shut off on it’s own a LOT, I looked inside and noticed my heatsink wasn’t turning either. So that had to be at least part of why.
I ordered parts because my mom managed to sell something on eBay and we scraped up the $50 for a new heatsink and 3 fans. And they finally got here today. (The 5 days I have gone without a computer has been TORTURE. You don’t understand how much of my life is just computer-run. All my work. All my friends. All my connection to the outside world.)
I opened it up immediately and started replacing parts. But then…
I pulled the heatsink out and saw… 2 capacitors are leaking. I don’t know what to do. Do I install the heatsink, let it run and hope the problem is solved and it wasn’t the capacitors? Hope they don’t die, ruin more parts, or explode?
If I need to replace the motherboard, I don’t know what I’ll do. I have NO money. I can’t even afford to buy food and prescriptions most of the time. And if I have to replace a motherboard of a 5 year old computer… I know that means a lot of other stuff follows. Could I even reuse the CPU? (It’s been 5 years, and in between building computers I usually forget everything about building them) Would I have to buy a new CPU? New memory? The motherboard was specially made to go with the video card… at the time it was supposed to be awesome and special, but 5 years is eons in computer-land.
This thing was $2000 five years ago… I could NEVER afford that now… I don’t know what to do. I am in total panic mode.
If you’re one of my friends, please, message me or email or something, because I haven’t been able to talk to you in like, a week, and I am so sorry. If ANYONE has advice, please, send it my way!
